Ulrich Tukur reads an exclusive audio book manuscript by the author, editor and publicist Matthias Wegner.
Hans Albers (1891-1960) was already a myth during his lifetime, countless legends entwine around the'blond Hans'. He is unforgotten as a daredevil who takes all hurdles and melts women's hearts. His 150 films, his songs and his acclaimed stage performances made him one of the most popular actors of the 20th century.
You know a lot about your films, less about your life. Matthias Wegner tells of Hans Albers with critical admiration. His informative biography sheds a new light on the star of yesteryear - and brings him closer to us again.

Preface by Prof. Dr. Michael Göring
"On the Reeperbahn at 12:30 in the morning,
if you have a girl or you don't have a girl,
you're having a good time, because you'll find it,
on the Reeperbahn at half past twelve at night."
Who can't sing along, who doesn't have blond Hans in sight! Hans Albers, the swarm of our grandmothers and mothers, who gave the Germans relaxation for a few hours with the films "Münchhausen" (1943) and "Große Freiheit Nr. 7" (1944) during the hardest years of the war and is still unforgotten today. Who would have been better suited to the ideal of the hamburger than that tall heartbreaker with the piercing blue eyes, this eternal sailor, who had never sailed at sea himself, but for whom a girl seemed to wait in every port city in the world.
Hans Albers is without a doubt one of the Hamburg minds, a series of books in which personalities were introduced who shaped Hamburg as politicians, entrepreneurs, artists or economists or who are connected with this city all over the world. Inspired by our former member of the board of trustees, former Chancellor Helmut Schmidt, the ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius presents a series of concise, vividly written biographies reminiscent of people from Hamburg's history.
Albert Ballin, Ida Ehre, Max Brauer, Rolf Liebermann, like Hans Albers, are firmly anchored in the memory of more than just Hamburg's citizens. In the biographies written by experts, details and connections are repeatedly brought to light that were not yet known in this way. In addition, volumes are dedicated to Eva König, the wife of Gotthold Ephraim Lessing, the photographer Herbert List or the poet Barthold Hinrich Brockes, which will probably only be brought closer to a wider audience through this publication. One of the aims of this series is also to bring lesser-known Hamburg personalities to public memory.
With Matthias Wegner we have found a competent and sensitive author for Hans Albers. In his biography of this charismatic actor, he brings Alber's character to life without tinkering with the myth or even trying to destroy Alber's legend. He deserves special recognition and thanks for this.
The ZEIT Foundation would also like to thank the scientific advisory board set up for this series, which includes Professor Dr. Franklin Kopitzsch, Professor Dr. Hans-Dieter Loose and Dr. Ernst-Peter Wieckenberg, for their responsible professional support. With Gerhard Richter and Marita Ellert-Richter, Hamburg's minds have found extremely committed publishers. With Helmut Schmidt, a curator watches over our foundation project, who is better suited than anyone else to give advice for a series of books about Hamburg minds. I thank him very much! Dr. Theo Sommer, like Helmut Schmidt a member of the board of trustees of the ZEIT Foundation, as well as world and Hamburg experience, accompanies the development of the individual volumes with proven expertise. Dr. Ingmar Ahl is responsible for this series of books at the ZEIT-Stiftung and, with his profound historical knowledge and expert editorial staff, has a particularly large share in each volume. Our sincere thanks go to all those involved, including those who could not be mentioned by name here.
