He started his career at 13. One song He's Got The Whole World In His Hands went way up in the American, British and German charts. He made his last record when he was 19.
On one hand, Laurie London's résumé from 1957 to 1963 is no ordinary career. On the other hand, it is not all that unusual for a child-star to fail to produce successful follow-ups to a big hit.
London-born Laurie London worked at the Abbey Road Studios with such renowned producers as Norman Newell and George Martin (who, of course, later produced the Beatles). Laurie London sang gospel-like material for the British market, but in Germany the young singer became a familiar figure on radio, stage and on record. He even landed a second hit, Bum-Ladda-Bum-Bum. Special songs were written for him, tailored to the German taste in popular music, and he recorded them in Cologne and Munich with producer, Nils Nobach. For the first time, Bear Family issues all of Laurie London's recordings on two separate CDs. This first volume contains all his German recordings. The EMI and Ariola recordings are complemented by Hey, hey, es wird Musik gemacht, which until now, could only be heard in the 1961 movie 'Und du mein Schatz bleibst hier'
